I have some vacation days to use up. And I have not done much in 2021, certainly nothing that counts as a real vacation. So, I stole my friends, Carolyn and Joe's idea and I started planning a week away to North Vancouver Island. And then I invited Valerie to join me and a getaway was born.
Onto Airbnb to see what was available in Sointula on Malcolm Island. This is based solely on Carolyn's answer to my question 'where was your favourite place?'. But Malcolm Island is pretty small and we have a week so I google/Airbnb mapped the area and found Port Alice. What do I know about Port Alice. Absolutely nothing.
I booked three days in Sointula followed by three in Port Alice. But the place in Sointula thought she might already be booked so we looked at a different place who let us know that there is basically nowhere to eat on Monday/Tuesday. Hmm, so I changed our dates for Port Alice as our starting point and then Sointula. There may be nowhere to eat in Port Alice too but we have a bigger place and a kitchen (I think, I hope...).
It's a long way to Port Alice from Victoria in one day so we are going to drop by my Mom's on Quadra Island. She may or may not be home. I guess that's fair since I am giving her about a week's notice. We will probably stop there on the way back too.
I did make sure that the ferry to Malcolm Island is supposed to be running on our dates (barring the usual ferry disruptions of weather, mechanical, crew, etc.). And Val made me confirm that the road to Port Alice is paved (it is!).
So, we are good to go. This blog is probably just a place to put my pictures so you may only see this if you accidentally stumble across it on my main page.
